of Non-Hostile Communication
The Manifesto of Non-Hostile Communication is a commitment of shared responsibility to create a respectful and civilized Internet space that represents us and offers a sense of security. Written and adopted by a community of over 300 communicators, bloggers and influencers, it is a charter of 10 practical principles guiding online behaviour.
10 style principles.
A serious commitment.
From the Internet, for the Internet.
Virtual is real
On the Internet, I only write or say what I would dare to say in person.
You are what you communicate
The words I choose define who I am. They represent me.
Words shape the way you think
I take all the time I need to express my views in the best possible way.
Listen before you speak
No one can always be right, and nor am I. I listen, with an honest and open-minded attitude.
Words are bridges
I choose words to understand, make myself understood and get close to others.
Words have consequences
I am aware that what I say or write can have consequences, small or serious.
Share with care
I share texts and images only after I have read, assessed and understood them.
Ideas can be discussed.
People must be respected
Those whose views and opinions differ from mine are not enemies to be destroyed.
Insult are not valid points
I accept no offensive and aggressive words, even if they support my point of view.
Silence says something too
When it’s better to keep quiet… I do.
The journey of the Manifesto
Three books of Parole O_Stili have been published:“Parole Ostili- 10 racconti” (Hostile Words – 10 stories) written by 10 of the most famous names of contemporary Italian literature, “Parole appuntite, parole piumate” an illustrated book which includes 5 nursery rhymes written by Anna Sarfatti and drawings made by Nicoletta Costa, “Penso, Parlo, Posto” for 11 to 16 years old kids.
The Manifesto landed on TV in two special occasions: on the children’s TV channel Super!, thanks to Rocco Hunt, an Italian rapper well known among kids and on Discovery Italia’s TV channels K2 and Frisbee – thanks to the project “Oggy prende la parola” (“Oggy starts to speak”) for the cartoon Oggy and the Cockroaches.
In all Italian schools
In spring 2017, the Manifesto was sent to all Italian school thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education and was introduced to teachers and students through initiatives such as teaching training courses and educational activities.
