Rosy Russo launched an appeal on the Internet early in October 2016: “Can we work together to establish a set of principles to help everyone communicate in a more responsible and civilized way online?”
Responses came from 300 bloggers, influencers and professional communicators, far more than expected. They sent comments and suggestions. An initial set of principles for ethical communication was generated from this impressive collective endeavour. The online community’s ten favoured principles were incorporated in the Manifesto of Non-Hostile Communication.
What happened on social media
The Manifesto principles, endorsed by the Internet for the Internet, were presented and signed by Gianni Morandi before an audience of 600, including numerous journalists, influencers, communicators, teachers and entrepreneurs.
Prominent guests included Laura Boldrini, President of the Chamber of Deputies, and Enrico Mentana, Director of TG La7.
